Day 1: Arrival at Siem Reap (—)

Welcome! Upon arriving, you will be greeted by your English-speaking local guide who will accompany you to your hotel to check in. Take some time to relax and unwind from your long journey. To make feel even more at ease, you will be treated to a delicate traditional Cambodian body massage. Truly, an excellent way of preparing you for the day’s tour!

Angkor has never failed to mesmerize the world since it was discovered in 1858 by Henri Mouhot. The French naturalist stumbled upon this amazing complex that was covered by dense jungle outgrowth. Since then, it has been heralded as one of the world’s most spectacular architectural achievements. Your day will be spent roaming around leisurely at the remnants of a once-mighty empire.

Your tour will officially start at Angkor National Museum where your expert guide will give you introduction to Khmer’s ancient history. You will travel down Khmer memory lane through the use of multi-media presentation that will show you the golden age of the ancient Cambodian empire.

Equipped with the knowledge from the presentation, you will begin your tour of the grandiose temples of Angkor. The height of the Angkor Empire is believed to be from the 9th to the 13th century. It was during this period that a lineage of Khmer kings built amazing structures using slave labor. The massive elaborate irrigation channels of the complex made it sustainable for the empire and even increased its strength and wealth.

Day 2: Siem Reap (B|L|D)

Experience Angkor Wat at the break of dawn by travelling to the site to witness the morning sun spread its light to the ancient structures. A tasty breakfast awaits you at Angkor Cafe Restaurant, just a few steps from the temple.

Your tour of the Angkor Wat complex begins today. This Cambodian historical landmark was constructed over a period of 30 years during the time of King Suryavarman II in the 12th century. Its design was patterned from Mount Meru which was considered as the home of the gods. The walls of the structure are adorned with bas-reliefs and stone carvings portraying the war exploits of the king and different stories of the Hindu mythology. If that isn’t lavish enough, get enthralled with 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the walls of the temple. Angkor Wat is the centerpiece of Cambodia’s national flag symbolizing the essence of the Khmers.

Next stop is the exploration of the Small Circuit temples. The most famous temple in this area is the Ta Prohm. This ancient structure was erected from the 12th to the 13th century. After it was abandoned, it was covered by vines and jungles and most sections of the temple crumbled to the ground. Part of its appeal today is the fact that most of it is still covered with dense vegetation, pretty similar to when it was first rediscovered.

Lunch will be at Siem Reap’s Paul Dubrule School of Hostelry and Tourism. This NGO provides quality education to young Khmers and equips them with the necessary skills to build flourishing careers. You will be treated to a mix of Khmer and international cuisines prepared by the students and served the school’s training restaurant, “Le Jardin des Delices”. The restaurant also boasts of its beautiful terrace and exotic garden. This part of the tour is available only from Tuesday to Friday. If your travel falls on other days, lunch will be served at Sala Bai.

Afternoon will be a free time for yourself to relax in your hotel or do other activities at your own convenience. At night, you will be treated to an exceptional Khmer dinner with matching Khmer Apsara dance performance. Apsaras are characters of legends famous in the Cambodian epic poem Reamker. This piece of literary masterpiece is akin to Hindu Ramayana. Apsara dancers train for years to master the intricate movements of the dance.

Day 3: Siem Reap (B)

Prepare yourself with a delicious breakfast treat before you head out to your 15-kilometer trip to the outskirts of Siem Reap to view the majestic pre-Angkor temples known as Roluos Group.

Roluos is believed to be erected some time during the 8th and 9th centuries by Angkor kings. It is consist of three core temples: Preah Ko, Lolei, and Bakong. It is surrounded by typical Cambodian scenery of rice paddies and sugar palm trees. To make your tour even more exciting, you will get a chance to ride a ox-drawn cart as you travel your way to Roluos Pagoda. Upon arrival, a private blessing ceremony for your health, well-being, and safe travel will be held by Buddhist monks for you. This will truly be an unforgettable experience! Head back to your hotel to take shelter from the midday heat.

In the afternoon you explore the stunning Tonle Sap Lake and get a glimpse of living on the lake. It is considered as Southeast Asia’s largest inland freshwater lake with its size varying from season to season. During the dry season, it covers an area of about 2,500 square kilometers; its size quadruples to about 10,000 square kilometers during the wet season. You will journey further to Kampong Phluck, an area thriving with authentic Cambodian fisherman’s life. This island is not an often-frequented tourist destination, but it displays marvelous views of mangrove forest, houses on stilts, and a glimpse of the day-to-day lives of inhabitants. (Trips scheduled during the dry months of April and May when the water level is low, an alternative tour to the floating village of Chong Kneas can be arranged.)

Head back to your hotel for another night. Overnight in Siem Reap

Day 4: Siem Reap (B)

After breakfast, you will travel to the “Citadel of the Women” temple of Banteay Srei, the structures of which are most appreciated as the sun rises over the horizon. Best considered as the treasure of the Angkor region, Banteay Srei is this most preserved Khmer architecture where you will find astounding bas-reliefs and details of classical Cambodian art. The structure itself is really unique as it is the only temple in the Angkor area made of pink sandstone.

Your next tour destination is the Golden Silk Peach Farm. This farm is managed by a local NGO that aims to revitalize the ancient Khmer silk trade and provide employment to over 100 local residents. You will take a guided tour of the mulberry plantation, farm area, and weaving ateliers. High-quality craftwork enthusiasts will have a field day at Golden Silk as the products they produce take months or years to complete. Each product is totally unique and the main silk material comes from indigent Cambodian yellow silkworm.

Travel the road next to Angkor Thom, the last known capital of the Great Cambodian Empire under the rule of Jayavarman VII. This ancient city is enveloped by eight-meter high walls and is situated in a perfect-square compound.

Continue your tour to the heart of the city Bayon Temple where you will be amazed by the grandeur of the structures. The East and South Galleries are fine examples of superb sculpting craftsmanship as shown in the elaborately-designed walls. Find your way to the Terrace of the Leper King and Terrace of the Elephants whose elaborate bas-relief are simply attention-grabbing.

Overnight in Siem Reap

Day 5: Siem Reap (B)

Your day will begin with an early breakfast followed by a 65-kilometer trip to Beng Mealea. To this day, Beng Mealea remains the same as during the time that its inhabitants left the place.
