Day 1: Phnom Penh to Kratie / Koh Trong (L,D)

Start your day with a sumptuous breakfast as you prepare for a scenic trip from Phnom Penh to Kratie. Your escort will accompany you to your journey along the Mekong River which will provide you insight to riverside villages that enhance the beauty of the mighty river.

Two hours into the trip and you will see yourself in the town of Kampong Cham. Take a leisurely troll along this little town and be amazed with the colonial structures lining up the streets. Your visit to this riverside settlement will be highlighted by a trek to Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei, literally “Men’s Hill” and “Women’s Hill”.

Your next stop in your Mekong River journey is Chupp where you will have a scenic glimpse of Cambodia’s most enormous biggest rubber plantation.

Your first-day journey will conclude in Kratie where you will enjoy a relaxing moment before you hop to a ferry for your respite. For the night, you will stay in Rajabori Villas in Koh Trong, a peaceful island where you can enjoy a bike ride exploration of the surrounding area.

The night will be capped with an extra-ordinary dining experience of Cambodian cookery served at a family-run local restaurant.

Overnight in Koh Trong.

Day 2: Kratie to Banlung (B,L,D)

Your morning will start with a plush Khmer breakfast—a perfect way to energize you for your second-day adventure.

Spend the first half of the day traversing the waters of Kampi on a sampan and be on a lookout for the rare Irrawaddy River Dolphins. These lovely aquatic creatures are near extinction and your trip will come with a pleasant surprise of catching a glimpse of these dolphins.

Your lunch will be served in Kratie and after a brief rest, your journey to the Ratanakiri’s capital, Banlung, will commence. Brace yourself for a bumpy 5-hour trip along the unpaved roads of this part of Cambodia.

Rest your weary body in the lakeside hotel with an exotic garden, the Terres Rouges Lodge in Ratanakiri Province.

Overnight in Banlung.

Day 3: Banlung and the Tanpoun Territory (B,L,D)

Your third day will be a day of discovery of Banlung’s natural beauty and culture. A jeep ride to surrounding waterfalls will start your day, including a tour of the majestic Teuk Cha On. Visit the indigent Chinese population in Voeue Sai Village when you traverse northwest along a bamboo forest. The residents of this enclave have inhabited this patch of Cambodian territory for a long time, but have retained their Chinese heritage and language. Enjoy the scenery of the Sé San River and the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

You will continue your village tour by taking a short boat ride to a number of Tampoun village clusters. Travel back in time with the indigenous residents who have preserved their traditions amidst modern development. Take a peek to their traditional funeral statuary and learn about the stories behind the remarkable totems of Ka Choan Village.

The day will end with a relaxing and delicious dinner back at the Terres Rouges Lodge where you will enjoy another peaceful sleep at night.

Overnight in Banlung.

Day 4: Banlung and the Kroeung Territory (B,L,D)

Your fourth-day trip will take you to Taveng Village near the Laotian border where you will cross a lava field called Veyrum Plang located in a forest. Should your trip happen during the rainy season, you’ll be delighted to see a small waterfalls running along a natural formation called “Tiger’s Cave”.

More magnificent forests await your arrival from your drive northwards to a number of indigent Kroeung villages. Depending on the season, you might be treated to a spectacle of bachelor houses erected on steep stilts. As the tribe’s tradition dictates, these houses are destroyed once the bachelor becomes a head of the family. Another house will rise from the ground when another man comes of age. Weather-permitting, you will enjoy a picnic-style lunch in scenic spots of the village.

The afternoon will be spent on further exploration of surrounding tribal villages along with a visit to Yeak Loam. This magnificent landmark is a volcanic lake surrounded by virgin rainforest. You can take a quick dip in the refreshingly cool water of the lake, walk around it, or simply sit and relax along the shore as you take in the beauty of the natural environment.

Terres Rouges Lodges will again be your home for the night.

Overnight in Banlung.

Day 5: Ratanakiri / Banlung to Phnom Penh (B)

After an early breakfast, you’ll take a quick detour to Banlung market for your fill of local produce and souvenir items to remind you of your Ratanakiri journey. Then off you go to your overland trip back to Phnom Penh.
