The temple ruins of this former royal capital date back to one of the most significant periods in Thailand’s history: between 1351 and 1767, the site was occupied by no less than 35 kings from five different dynasties. It rivalled most European capitals of the time and the city was a major centre not only of Thai civilisation but also Asian, Middle Eastern and even European arts, culture and trade. Today, this UNESCO Heritage city is a fascinating collection of ruins and ideal for exploring to take you back in time it. The city has become known for it’s selection of popular restaurants in recent years.
