The town was believed to be erected some time during the 8th and 9th centuries by Angkor kings. It is consist of three core temples: Preah Ko, Lolei, and Bakong. It is surrounded by typical Cambodian scenery of rice paddies and sugar palm trees.
To create some excitement on your tour we have decided to offer you the chance to ride a cow-drawn cart as you travel your way to Roluos Pagoda. Upon arrival at the Pagoda you will be given a private blessing ceremony. This is to give good health, well-being, and safe travels and will be held by Buddhist monks for you. This is an activity that is experienced by only a few travelers to Angkor and we can assure you that this will be an unforgettable experience!
By this time it will be around mid-day and to ensure that you do not become overwhelmed you will be taken back to your hotel or hostel to relax. After you have recharged your batteries we head over to the fascinating Angkor Thom. Angkor Thom was the last known capital of the Great Cambodian Empire under the rule of Jayavarman VII. This ancient city is enveloped by eight-meter high walls and is situated in a perfect- square compound.
Here, we start your exploration through the South Gate which is adorned by four giant faces and elephant carvings. The entrance path is lined with 54 images of demigods holding aloft the holy snake Naga.
Our exploration of Angkor Thom will continue to the heart of this city to the Bayon Temple. The temple is one of the most grandeur structures that you will see on your tour where you will be amazed at its beauty. This temple is famous for its 54 towers, each one depicting mysterious face. Each tower is believed to be a symbol of each province of the Empire.
As we approach the end the tour we guide you to the Terrace of the Leper King and Terrace of the Elephants whose elaborate bas-relief are simply attention-grabbing. The 350m-long Terrace of Elephants was used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies and served as a base for the king’s grand audience hall. It has five outworks extending towards the Central Square-three in the centre and one at each end. The middle section of the retaining wall is decorated with life size garuda and lions; towards either end are the two parts of the famous parade of elephants complete with their Khmer mahouts.
After exploring here, we conclude the end of our tour and give you the chance to return back to your hotel to relax and rejuvenate for another day of exploring or you may choose to continue on into Siem Reap and enjoy its nighttime festivities.
