Explore the beauty of Yangon in this 4-day tour of the country. The trip will take you to amazing ancient sites as well as mesmerizing natural sceneries. Get a chance to mingle with local folks and participate in other optional tour inclusions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Yangon  

After pick up from the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. First you will visit the Bothahtaung Jetty and Bothahtaung pagoda, which is an ancient arrival port of entry to Yangon. Then proceed to the Pansodan Jetty passing by the central post office. On the way, you can also visit the historical hotel named “Strand Hotel”, which was built since 1901 and is on the list of the hotel is list of the Yangon City Heritage. If you like, you can have a cup coffe or tea (at your own account) in the cafe of the legendary Strand Hotel. Then you continue walking around the historical buildings, which bring back the image of colonial era. Walking along the Pansodan road, where colonial buildings line up on your both sides, till you get to Sule Pagoda, the spot that represents the centre of Yangon, where you will be surrounded by the High Court, Immanuel Church, Islamic Moresque and Sule Pagoda. You will see the city hall as well as  the independence monument. Then proceed to walk through the indian district, where you can see their daily life by selling all kinds of old and junks for electrical appliances, those seems to be worthless but eventually not for some particular customers.

After having a break in your hotel in the afternoon, the Kandaw Gyi lake together with the Karaweik Park, and then the reclining Buddha in mega size named Chauk  Htat Gyi, which is 256 feet (About 70 Meters) long. Around the precinct of reclining Buddha, there are monasteries, which you could visit at your own choice. Finally you will visit the Shwedagon Pagoda, which is the image of Myanmar or the guardian image of all people. Shwedagon is shining in its gold with the height of 326 feet about 100 meters high, the whole stupa is decorated with gold leaves and plates with a crown or umbrella decorated with thousands and thousands of jewelleries. Visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda during the sunset is a  wonderful moment to enjoy the alteration of lustre and the tones of its gold colour according to the brightness of the sun could last in your forever lasting memory.

Day 2: Yangon ( B, – , – )

After breakfast, you will take a 30 minute train ride from the Yangon Railway station the outskirts of town. It is a unique opportunity to observe the lively and colorful life of the rural Burmese people.  Disembark to shop colorful Kyi Myin Dain market and meet the friendly locals before returning by road to Yangon.

This afternoon, enjoy a car tour to view various historical buildings and the famous Strand Road, a hub of activity. Continue to Bogyoke Market shop the wide selection of Myanmar handicrafts and other goods (Note: closed on Mondays and public holidays). As today comes to a close, take a stroll around colorful Chinatown and visit one of Yangon’s Chinese temples.

Day 3: Yangon – Bago – Yangon ( B, – , – )

Today you will enjoy a day trip excursion to historic Bago which is one hour drive from Yangon to the north along countryside. The sites in Bago are spread out around the town and you’ll spend time exploring and learning about the history and myths of the city. Stops include the 55-metre long reclining Shwethalyaung Buddha, the four seated Buddhas at Kyaikpun and the old palace of Kambozathadi. The Mon-style Shwemawdaw Pagoda is the most outstanding religious monument in Bago. This golden temple stands at 114 metres tall, higher than Yangon’s Shwedagon Pagoda, and can be seen from around 10 kilometres outside of the city. While in Bago, take time to visit the town market and a Mon neighborhood where the locals once produced woven textiles.

From Bago we’ll return to Yangon this afternoon. Before reaching the city limits, stop in Htaukkyan township to visit the Allied War Cemetery, the final resting place for more than 27,000 Allied Soldiers who perished during the World War II campaign in Myanmar.

Day 4: Yangon – Dhala – Depart Yangon ( B, L , – )

After breakfast at your hotel, board a ferry at the bustling Nanthida Jetty to cross the Yangon River to Dhala. Upon arrival to Dhala, travel by local trishaw through the town to visit the market and interact with the friendly locals. Proceed to the monastery to learn about monastic life in Myanmar. Return by boat to Yangon and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, before you transfer to the Yangon International Airport for your departure flight, you may decide which program you prefer:

Option 1: you explore Yangon’s art scene and visit several of Yangon’s downtown galleries such as Pansodan and Lawkanat. Your final stop will be River Gallery at The Strand Hotel where afterwards you can enjoy a tea or coffee in the historic café.

Option 2: discover the traditional medicines of Myanmar. Take a walk down Kon Zay Dan Street where ingredients such as herbs, plants and even sea shells are sold to be used as medicine. Then meet a local doctor who uses age-old techniques to diagnose illnesses.
