Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City Arrival
Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City (B)
This morning, explore Ho Chi Minh City. Visit a family run temple, and spend time learning about the spiritual beliefs of the small monastery. Begin your walking tour at the vibrant local market. Then visit a small temple honoring 5 mother goddesses and a monastery where the monks are happy to show you their home and give you an astrology reading. This afternoon, visit Vietnam’s FITO Museum, the first traditional medicine museum, displaying a collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese medicine including ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine can be seen in the galleries. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City – Danang – Hoi An (B)
After breakfast, take a short flight to t Danang. On arrival in Danang transfer to Hoi An, a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries. Take a cyclo tour of the ancient town, past former merchants’ homes, the 400 year-old Japanese covered bridge and the vibrant market. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Hoi An.
Day 4: Hoi An – Hue (B, L)
Today’s tour will begin at the vibrant ‘wet market’. Browse everything from silk worms, fresh herbs and vegetables to the meat and fish. After leaving the market, continue wandering along the streets and alleys to discover fantastic vendors and sample delicious authentic street foods. This afternoon, depart for Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. Visit the mausoleums of the last emperors of Vietnam and the ancient citadel. Drive through Danang before climbing over the Pass of Ocean Clouds and in to the fishing village of Lang Co. Overnight in Hue.
Day 5: Hue – Hanoi (B)
Spend the morning exploring the garden houses of Hue or visit the peaceful pagoda. Choose one of the options below.
Option 1: Visit a typical garden house, made with a timber frame and roofed with brick tiles and stands on large pillars placed on a stone base. The altar of the family’s ancestors occupies the central room. Then visit the home of Mr. Phan Thuan An, a respected historian who has devoted his life to researching the former imperial capital of Vietnam.
Option 2: Transfer to the beautiful pagoda which dates back to 1843. Located in a forest of pine trees this monastery was once the home of Zen master. One of the most interesting parts of the pagoda is the eunuch tombs from the former Royal Court which in the whole city of Hue are only found here. If in Hue on Thursday or Sunday mornings between 0900-1000 join up to 20 Buddhist monks and nuns who gather together to pray and read aloud scriptures. This is highly recommended. Then, explore the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945.
From here transfer to Airport for the 1-hour flight to Hanoi. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 6: Hanoi (B)
Before breakfast, visit one of Hanoi’s oldest temples and participate in a Chi session with Master Vuong. The session is suitable both for those with no prior experience, and those who have already studied other martial arts. After breakfast at the hotel, visit Hanoi’s Temple of Literature. In 1076 Quoc Tu Giam – Vietnam’s first university, also referred to as Van Mieu, was established within a temple to educate Vietnam’s royalty, mandarins and members of the elite. The university functioned for an incredible 700 years and its gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam’s past. Continue on to beautiful West Lake, the sixth century Tran Quoc Buddhist Pagoda and the Taoist temple of Quan Thanh which is dedicated to Tran Vu, one of the principal deities in Taoism. This afternoon, visit a traditional Vietnamese docto, Dr Huong. An expert in Traditional Eastern Methods through Acupuncture, Acupressure and Cagut Implantation in Hanoi, she has been a practitioner of Traditional Eastern Methods for over 20 years. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 7: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B, L, D)
After breakfast travel to Halong City for an overnight boat trip on Halong Bay. Upon arrival, board your traditional wooden junk for the overnight journey into the Bay. En-route lunch will be served. Enjoy the beautiful rock formations scenery including Sail, Dog and Dinh Huong (incense pot). At sunset, enjoy a dinner of fresh seafood, salads, and fruits on board. Overnight on Halong Bay.
Day 8: Halong – Hanoi Departure (B)
This morning enjoy a wholesome brunch as your boat weaves through strange-shaped limestone rock formations. Upon disembarkation your driver will meet you for the transfer back to Hanoi. As an optional extra and according to your flight schedule visit one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam ‘But Thap’ on the way back to Hanoi. At leisure for shopping until your transfer to Noi Bai Airport for onward flight.
