Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai (D)
Today a full day tour of Hanoi is waiting for you, beginning with the Temple of Literature. In 1076, Vietnam’s first university Quoc Tu Giam was established within a temple to educate Vietnam’s royalty, mandarins and members of the elite. The university functioned for an incredible 700 years and its gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam’s past. Next, visit The One Pillar Pagoda, one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples, the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, and the former presidents house on stilts where he lived from 1958 to 1969. (Viewed from outside; closed Mon and Fri and from Oct-Nov) Continue on to the beautiful West Lake, the sixth century Tran Quoc Buddhist Pagoda and the Taoist temple of Quan Thanh dedicated to Tran Vu, one of the principal deities in Taoism. The afternoon is free for own activities. After dinner transfer to Hanoi train station for the overnight train to Lao Cai, the gateway to Sapa. Overnight on the train in a soft sleeper compartment.
Day 2: Lao Cai – Sapa (B)
Once you arrive into Lao Cai you will be transferred to Sapa, a former hill station. Here in this beautiful region you will see hill tribe population, the Hmong in their traditional dress. See how they work to make clothes that they are well known for with intricate colours and details. From here you will transfer back to the Hotel. Following breakfast at the Hotel we will take you to the Silver Waterfall. From here see the amazing views of the mountains and dense forests of Hoang Lien National Park. You will stop at a local farm to enjoy a cup of tea where your guide will tell you about the plum trees and squash grow that grow in this area of Sapa. After we will go by to the highest road in Vietnam, named the gates of heaven, which borders Lao Cai and Lai Chau. Stop here to enjoy the breathtaking views. We then head to Ma Tra valley a popular attraction because of its beautiful scenery and terraced rice fields. The tour continues with a short transfer and we then continue on foot downhill crossing a stream to Suoi Ho village. The village is located on top of a low hill which gives it a stunning image. Here you will be given the opportunity to see how the hill tribe people live. We then continue to Ma Tra village, along the way we pass the stunning scenery of the valley and the terraced paddies. The there also flower farms to enjoy on this walk. At the end of our walk we will find by a French Catholic church. We then will be picked up transferred back to Sapa. Overnight in Sapa.
Note: Appropriate footwear must be worn in Sapa. Note that if conditions are wet, programs may be diverted.
Day 3: Sapa – Ethnic Market – Lao Cai – Hanoi (B, L)
Following breakfast you will be taken to a local market where you will see hill tribe groups gather to buy and sell numerous of locally made items. They will also trade farming wildlife such as pot-bellied pigs, cows and buffalos. Next we will talk a stroll through a mountain village where you can see and immerse yourself with the daily lives of the people. See their traditions and culture firsthand. The afternoon consists of either walking through the villages and or a boat trip, this depends on which village you have visited. From here you will be transferred back to Lao Cai to take a train and enjoy a return trip to Hanoi. Overnight on the train in a soft sleeper compartment.
Day 4: Hanoi (B)
Early arrival in Hanoi then transfer to your hotel or central Hanoi for onward departure.
