Experience the wonders of Laos’ most iconic destinations on this week long trip. Spend three days in charming Luang Prabang before enjoying a tranquil jungle experience in Kamu Lodge. Then head south to capital city Vientiane for two days of cultural immersion. Combining nature, history, and local interaction, this tour is all about showcasing the marvels of Laos.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Luang Prabang

Upon arrival in Luang Prabang you will be met by your guide and private car and transferred to your hotel. The late afternoon is the perfect time for a soothing introduction into the spiritual capital of Laos. As the sun begins to dip Luang Prabang begins to glow, the rooftops gloriously reflecting the red and yellows of a long drawn out sunset. Climb up the steps of Mount Phousi for the best views of both Luang Prabang and the undulating hills that surround the city. Now head back down a different way, stopping off at an atmospheric hill tribe evening market, where handicrafts are sold beneath the soft lights and a hypnotic scene fills your first evening in Laos.

Day 2: Luang Prabang (B)

Luang Prabang lays on the charm, the streets filled with enchantment and serenity. Today is all about discovering its many sides. Your guide will pick you up after breakfast and show the way.

Start in the elegant Royal Palace, learning about Laos culture as the interiors now house the National Museum. Golden temples then lead your eye on a merry dance, from Wat Mai and its majestic golden bas-relief to the shimmering exterior of Wat Sensoukarahm. Orange monks are seen all around Wat Xieng Thong, walking barefoot beside one of the city’s most revered temples. Marvel at the ornate carvings and mosaics and soak up the spiritual atmosphere that pervades through this 16th You’ll be losing yourself in the wonders of this living UNESCO World Heritage city and the sights continue with Wat Visoun, the holiest temple in the city. Check out the courtyard. Does the stupa remind you of anything? Perhaps a fruit? It’s named after a watermelon.

A visit to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center follows before you cross the Mekong River and climb up Wat Chompet for a different view of the sunset.

Day 3: Luang Prabang-Kuang Si Waterfall– Luang Prabang (B, D)

Your guide will pick you up after breakfast and take you into the rolling green hills, for a half day tour to the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Drive through brilliant landscapes of rice fields and undulating hills, stopping on route at a tiny village where you’ll get a heart felt welcome and a glimpse at traditional lifestyle that remains unchanged for centuries. The falls flow out from the forest, impressive cascades of water that seem to float down the limestone cliffs and create turquoise pools. They’re perfect for a quick swim but please cover up and respect the locals who visit here. Go hiking on the trails into the forest, or just relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Century temple. Lao cuisine doesn’t have a worldwide name, but it offers a wonderful feast for the senses with its subtle use of spice and eclectic range of flavors. You’ll learn the secrets to this cuisine by taking a cooking class at Tamnak Laos, one of the city’s most famous restaurants. Pick three dishes and take a lesson from local expert chefs, before sitting down to the banquet you prepared. A cooking book is included and offers plenty ideas of have to take Lao cuisine back home.

Day 4: Luang Prabang-Pak Ou caves-Kamu Lodge (B, L, D)

Early risers are rewarded with a hypnotic scene, as long lines of barefoot monks walk through the streets and collect offerings from the city’s residents. Their orange robes glow in the dawn light and this sunrise ceremony is full of beauty. You’ll need to be up at 05:30, and then can return to the hotel for breakfast.

After breakfast you’ll take a cruise up the Mekong River, stopping off at the Pak Ou Caves on route to the wonderfully tranquil Kamu Lodge. Endless photograph opportunities accompany any journey by river in Laos. Stunning mountains and cliffs tower over the Mekong, and on the other side a series of local scenes are being played out; fishermen gracefully casting nets, locals paddling on their long tail boats, and children waving hello as you cruise past.

The Pak Ou Caves hold a golden secret. Thousands, yes thousands, of gold covered Buddhas can be found inside, filling the caves with an eery spirituality. Some are tiny, others are huge, many evoke emotion and will stick in your memory. Continue upriver for another hour and head deep into the wilderness, arriving at the beautiful Kamu Lodge in time for lunch. With just 20 private canvas tents, this lodge offers a blueprint on sustainable ecotourism. It’s easy to relax and forget about the world. But don’t get too relaxed, as you have a choice of afternoon activities that offer a real insight into local Lao life. Walk to local villages deep in the jungle and meet the locals, go fishing on the Mekong and then barbecue your catch, or try gold panning or rice harvesting.

Day 5: Kamu Lodge – Luang Prabang – Vientiane (B)

Savor the nature and serenity of Kamu Lodge before cruising back down the Mekong to Luang Prabang, arriving in time for lunch. From here you will enjoy an afternoon touring the city – don’t worry about carrying your bags, we’ll be looking after them.

Visit the Heritage Centre and learn how tourism is preserving ancient traditions in Laos. Then continue to an old weaving village and check out the marvelous mulberry paper. Before reaching the airport you’ll stop in the forest retreat of Wat Pa Phon Pao. Then its onwards to Vientiane on your departure flight QV 104, leaving at 17:50. Your guide and private car will meet you in Vientiane and transfer you to your hotel for check in. The evening is at your leisure.

Day 6: Vientiane (B)

Vientiane is full of hidden wonders, many of them tucked away and waiting to be discovered. After breakfast you’ll enjoy a guided tour of Vientiane, a capital that feels more like a village than a city.

Temples like Wat Sisaket impress with their thousands of miniature Buddha statues and their wooden corridors that demand to be photographed. Wonderful collections of Lao and Khmer artwork can be discovered in Wat Phra Kreo, while the Presidential Palace gives a glimpse at a colonial past. Vientiane isn’t just about the famous sights. So savor the viewsof local traders, quaint cafes, and monks in their deep orange robes. Continue the tour with Wat Simuang, the guardian of the city’s spirits. In the afternoon you’ll climb the Arc de Triomphe, not the Paris monument, but Laos’s version which is called Patuxay.

Enjoy sweeping panoramas from the roof and then visit That Luang and feel the spirituality. This is the holiest site in Laos and its towering golden spire shimmers in the late afternoon sun.

Day 7: Depart Vientiane (B)

After breakfast you will have some free time before you guide meets you at the hotel and transfers you to the airport for departure.
