Enjoy a mix of local sceneries, ancient sites, natural wonders, and a chance encounter with the locals. This 5-day tour will take you to the surrounding sites at Inle Lake where you will get a chance to visit centuries-old structures and explore ancient temples. You will also have an unforgettable experience of meeting indigenous tribes as well as have a taste of local treats and delicacies.

Itinerary

Day 1: Yangon– Heho – Nyaung Shwe ( -,-,-)

Arrive this morning in Heho after a morning flight. Your guide will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to Nyaung Shwe, on Inle Lake.

Upon arriving in Nyaung Shwe, check in to the hotel and take bike ride around town. Explore the local market, temples and nunneries in town then venture kilometres past fields of sugar cane, rice and cabbage to the lake’s eastern shores.

Stop for a visit at Red Mountain Estate vineyard where grapes are imported from France and farmed by local Pa-Oh people. The setting is stunning with fabulous views over the lake and the Shan Mountains. Bike back to Nyaung Shwe and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure. Tour the town on foot and enjoy a Shan Noodle salad at the night market. Or, order a delicious meal at Green Chili or Viewpoint Restaurant.

OPTION: Enjoy a wine tasting! Sampling several varieties of Red Mountain wine while enjoying the views at the open-air bar.

Day 2: Kakku Excursion ( B, L  , – )

After breakfast, drive from Nyaung Shwe to Kakku. You will enjoy this spectacular drive, crossing over rolling hills and small villages inhabited to the Pa-Oh people. Once closed to visitors, you will witness local life that most have not. Along the way, stop at the Taunggyi market, a gathering place for traders from the surrounding hills and villages to sell their produce and wares. As you approach Kakku you will discover breathtaking views of more than 5200 centuries old stupas and several Buddha images.

As you explore the temples, notice the intricate carvings and details on the structures. Your knowledgeable Pa-Oh guide will share with you the customs of the people in this area. You will have lunch at a local restaurant near Kakku pagodas and then begin your drive back to Nyaung Shwe, arriving around 16.00.

Overnight in Nyaung Shwe.

Our recommendation: Wake early this morning to watch dozens of red robed monks walk barefoot through Nyaung Shwe to collect their daily alms from the locals. This ritual beginning at 6:30am.

Day 3:  Inle Lake Boat Trip with Indein ( B, – , – )

Today you will enjoy a full day excursion on Inle Lake. After breakfast take a local trishaw to the jetty to board a private motorboat to Khaung Dine village on the western shores. Stroll through this village to see the production of tofu, fried soya crackers and soya bean paste.

Continue to the centre of the lake passing Intha villages built on stilts over the water and marvel at their floating gardens. You will also see the leg rowing fishermen of the lake who steer their boats with incredible balance. Continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains 5 sacred Buddha images, and to the village of Inpawkhone to observe the traditional silk weaving techniques of Innthar people. You will also visit a cheroot factory to see Burmese cigar rolled by hand.

Stop for lunch on the lake and sample delicious Inthar or Shan dishes (client’s account)

This afternoon, continue by boat to Indein. Stroll through the village and the beautiful Alaung Sitthou area filled with ancient stupas and magnificent views of the lake.Continue to your hotel on the lake and check in. Enjoy the serene lake views and witness a beautiful sunset from your balcony.

OPTION: cooking course: Enjoy a unique opportunity to cook with a local Inthar family. Learn to cook traditional dishes such as stuffed Inle fish and tomato salad. Then sit on the floor, local-style, and enjoy your freshly prepared lunch.

Day 4:  Sagar Excursion ( B, L , – )      

Set off this morning for Sagar at the far southern region of Inle Lake. The area was only recently opened to tourists in 2003 and very few tourists have visited Sagar. Relax during the 3 hours ride and enjoy the scenic views and the many birds inhabiting the area.

Upon arrival,there are several stops that will be made. There is a local monastery and village to be visited here and the famous ‘sunken’ stupas of Sagar.108 stupas from the 16-17th centuries are partially underwater for a few months a year.

Continue to the village of Thaya Gone, best known for its production of local rice wine. Watch the process of distillation and sample this local wine. Afterwards, climb to the top of a small hill for great views of the lake and villages. Next, stop at the Sae Khaung Pottery Village. Learn about the natural, underground kilns and watch the crafting of oil and water pots.

Lunch will be arranged along the way (either picnic lunch or local lunch at a small restaurant) . In the afternoon, the boat will begin its journey back to the main section of Inle Lake. Witness different activities occurring on the water and in the villages during the afternoon hours. Rice noodles and spun cotton can be see hanging out to dry and children returning from school. You’ll reach your hotel early this evening in time to freshen up and watch the sunset.

Day 5:  Inle Lake – Heho – Departure ( B, – , )

This morning is at your leisure until transferring to the Heho Airport for your departure flight.

(Your hotel room is available until 12:00. If you are departing later, you can ask the hotel to keep the luggages. A late check-out is possible upon availability with some charge.)
