from Vientiane / to Pakse
Day 1: Vientiane – HIn Boun
You will be picked up this morning from your hotel and transferred south along route 13 to the central Lao province of Khammoune. En route we stop at Prabaht Ponsan, a stupa dating back to the 15th crossing the Mekong.Following lunch we make stop at the interesting Ban Ton Na Mae Hmong Market, then continue onwards into Khammoune province and into the mountainous area, where a stop at a view point near Khoun Kham offers a breathtaking view over the karst scenery, or ‘limestone forest’.
Our last stop of the day is Ban Thabuk, the ‘bomb boat village’ where they use old bomb casings from the Vietnam War as boats. We eventually reach Hin Boun area by late afternoon, where you have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Hin Boun – Kong Lor Caves – Savannakhet (B, L)
After breakfast at your lodge, we drive to Kong Lor village and board a small local boat into the famous Kong Lor Cave. We navigate through the cave, which is over 7km long and includes a spectacular cavern over 100m high, as well as a breathtaking stalagmite gallery which you can explore on foot.
Lunch can be taken at the restaurant by the entrance to the cave. Following lunch, we return through the cave by boat, and transfer directly by car to Savannakhet, arriving there by early evening.

Day 3: Savannakhet – Champasak (B)
After a leisurely breakfast, your guide will meet you to continue your journey to Pakse, taking 3.5 hours. On the confluence of the Mekong and the Sedone River, Pakse is the most important town in southern Laos. Pakse is the home a very important Vietnamese community, so if you visit this town during the Têt (Vietnamese New Year), do not be surprised if many shops are closed. This small city has a mixture of Chinese and French architecture and some lively markets.
You may wish to stop in Pakse for lunch (not included) or continue straight on to Champasak, 1 hour further south. Century. It is also home to the Budhhas footprint, left when, as legend has it, he was Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in Champasak.

Day 4: Champasak – 4000 Islands – Champasak (B,L)
After an early morning breakfast, we cross over to the mainland and drive south to Ban Hatsaikhoun, where we board a local private boat for a boat tour of the 4000 Islands. We reach the picturesque island of Don Khone by lunchtime, and in the afternoon explore the island by bicycle, tracing the route of an old abandoned railway and admiring some of the old French Colonial buildings, and the beautiful Liphi Waterfall.
We then return to our boat and head back to the mainland, visiting the spectacular Khone Phapheng Falls, one of the largest and most powerful waterfalls in Southeast Asia. In the late afternoon we drive back to Champasak arriving there by early evening.

Day 5: Exploring Champasak (B)
After breakfast you will transfer approximately 15 minutes to Wat Phou. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Wat Phou is a spectacular pre-Angkorian temple that sits among the rice fields and waterways of southern Laos. The temple was constructed in three levels: the bottom level is focused on the baray (water reservoir) and promenade, the second level features quadrangular pavilions and galleries of carvings, and the top level is the sanctuary itself. The temple was built by the rulers of the Khmer empire before the construction of Angkor Wat. This site served as the most important economic and political centre of the region and still is one of the Lao people’s most revered temples.
The rest of the day is free at leisure to enjoy your hotel and beautiful surroundings. The local area is also great for exploring on bikes, which are available at your hotel.

Day 6: Champasak – Pakse (departure) (B)
After breakfast you have time at leisure until it is time to leave. Your driver and guide will transfer you to the airport in Pakse (1 hour away) in time for your onward flight.
