Itinerary

Day 1: LUANG PRABANG – SAYABOURY – THE ECC

This morning you will be met at your hotel for the private road transfer from Luang Prabang to Sayaboury, taking approximately 3 hours. (Driver only transfer) Your guide will take you for a visit of the Center’s facilities and present our ongoing projects. You will meet our team of veterinarians and biologists and our elephants! Mahouts will share some of their secrets with you and will offer you the opportunity to ride their elephant, bareback, to sense the animal and feel the world from a mahout’s viewpoint.

Hold on and try to get used to their swaying steps! You will then have the opportunity to take the elephants back to the forest where they spend the night grazing and sleeping. As you stroll together with these magnificient creatures into the dense forest of Nam Tien, take a moment! This is the REAL land of elephants! Your guide will give you an overview of the biodiversity of our protected forest.

Before dinner, you will have some free time to visit the Elephant Museum, cruise on the lake on kayaks or go for a swim. You can also choose to watch a movie on elephants, just ask your guide to set it up for you.

Overnight at the Elephant Conservation Center

Day 2: TREKKING WITH ELEPHANTS – VIST THE NURSERY – SUNSET CRUISE

The second day will give you an insight of the mahout culture and you will discover the elephants in their own habitat. Take the opportunity to feel closer to the elephants by joining them and their mahouts in the forest to partake in their morning ritual. Attend the elephants’ daily bath and learn more about our giant guests’ playful characters.

Elephants are surprisingly good swimmers and love water. You will witness the unique bond between the mahout and his elephant. After a short boat trip on the lake, you will then discover our nursery. It is located in the forest where the baby elephants are learning how to sustain themselves closely watched by their mum. At sunset, board our boat for a relaxing cruise on the Nam Tien Lake.

Enjoy fresh drinks and snacks, go for a swim or simply stare at the amazing landscape surrounding you. An unforgettable entertaining experience with our friendly staff! Before dinner, you will have some time to visit the elephant museum, swim or simply relax on the lakeshore.

Overnight at the Elephant Conservation Center

Day 3: TREKKING – TRANSFER TO LUANG PRABANG

This morning enjoy a western-style breakfast served at the restaurant overlooking the lake. On the third day, our veterinarians and biologists will take you into their world and explain you about the field and research work they undertake in Laos and the region. Through the visit of the only Elephant Hospital in Laos, you will discover the conservation actions implemented by ElefantAsia NGO.

After a last lunch, it will be time to say goodbye and to leave the Elephant Conservation Center. You will be transferred out by boat and then return to Luang Prabang by road. (Driver only transfer)

The bungalows are built on stilts in traditional Laotian style. All have balconies and superb views of the sea. Mosquito nets are available. While the bungalows have neither air conditioning nor fans, their situation and architectural design afford them good natural ventilation. Shared bathroom facilities. The restaurant uses fresh, locally-grown ingredients to prepare typical Laotian dishes.
